Washington DC to Vote on Decriminalizing Mushrooms

On November 3rd, Washington DC will be voting on Initiative 81 to make the enforcement of laws against natural plant medicines (entheogens) among the lowest law enforcement priorities, helping thousands of DC residents who currently fear arrest or prosecution. Initiative 81 will apply to naturally occurring plant or fungi substance like psilocybin mushrooms, ayahuasca, iboga, or mescaline-containing cacti, that can initiate non-ordinary states of consciousness that inspire mental or spiritual growth and healing.

Washington DC Initiative 81 is in addition to Oregon Measure 109, the Psilocybin Mushroom Services Program Initiative of 2020. While Washington DC is seeking to decriminalize psychedelics, Oregon is seeking to legalize the therapeutic use of psilocybin. In August, Canada granted permission for psilocybin to be used for end-of-life therapy.

Numinus Wellness (TSXV: NUMI) is licensed by Health Canada to produce and extract psilocybin from mushrooms. Last month, NUMI announced that it has begun cultivating Psilocybe mushrooms, for the purpose of psilocybin production, at its 7000 square-foot Health Canada licensed facility. NUMI has also begun making upgrades on its existing wellness clinic for compliance to the Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelics Studies (MAPS) specifications for psychedelic-assisted psychotherapies, to ready the clinic for delivery of therapies and to provide a blueprint for the expansion of Numinus clinics in a range of jurisdictions in the future.
